Adding scenery and a sky gives\u00a0a bark house a whole new look<\/strong><\/p>\n

One of my favorite things to carve\u00a0is a themed bark house. Over the\u00a0years I\u2019ve created houses for Christmas,\u00a0July 4th,\u00a0and Thanksgiving, but my\u00a0favorite houses are for Halloween.\u00a0Cottonwood bark lends itself especially\u00a0well to an eerie Halloween look.<\/p>\n

No two pieces of bark are the same,\u00a0so any measurements, dimensions, and\u00a0patterns are suggestions. Adapt the\u00a0design to fit your bark. As long as you set\u00a0your landmarks in well, your piece will\u00a0turn out fine.

\nMaterials:
\n<\/strong><\/em>Cottonwood bark, 3″ (76mm)\u00a0thick: 3 1\/2″ x 13″ (89mm x 33cm)
\nOil paints: Payne\u2019s grey, black,\u00a0reddish-brown, gold, brick red,\u00a0orange, silver, green, white, buff\u00a0titanium, cadmium yellow deep,\u00a0ultramarine blue
\nNatural oil stain, such as Minwax
\nFinish, such as Deft:\u00a0spray semi-gloss
\nWatco Danish oil wax: natural,\u00a0dark walnut
\nPaper bag<\/p>\n

Tools:
\n<\/strong><\/em>Carving knife
\n#5 gouge: 3\/4″ (19mm)
\n#7 gouge: 5\/8″ (16mm)
\n#11 gouge: 1\/8″ (3mm)
\nMicro gouge: 1\/8″ (3mm),\u00a05\/32″ (4mm)
\nV-tool: 1\/16″ (2mm) or stylus,\u00a01\/8″ (3mm), 1\/2″ (13mm)
